Khamla was born in a rural village in Sayaboury Province. His academic journey took him to Luang Prabang, where he pursued and completed a degree in Economics after finishing high school.
With a solid educational foundation, Mr. Khamla embarked on a 15-year career with a high school travel company, gaining extensive experience and insights into the travel industry. This experience paved the way for him to realize his entrepreneurial vision.
Khamla’s deep understanding of the tourism sector and his commitment to offering enriching travel experiences have been instrumental in shaping Golden Compass Tour Laos into a distinguished and innovative travel provider.
Somjai SIMOONTHONG
Operation Manager
Mr. Somjai was born in Sayaboury Province and relocated to Luang Prabang in 2002 to pursue his education and career opportunities. His initial foray into the professional world began in 2008 when he joined the tourism industry as a travel agent. Over the years, Mr. Somjai honed his skills and expertise, and in 2018, he expanded his role to manage student groups and community service projects.
His dedication and experience in the tourism sector led him to his current position as Operations Manager at Golden Compass Tour Laos. In this role, Mr. Somjai oversees daily operations, ensuring the seamless execution of tours and exceptional service for clients.

With more than 18 years of experience working with international high school students, we believe that travel is more than sightseeing—it's an opportunity to learn, connect, and make a positive impact. Our educational programs give students the chance to experience Lao culture, explore nature, and work alongside local communities on meaningful projects.
Together with villagers, students contribute to community development by helping refurbish schools, improve clean water access, build community halls, construct bathrooms, and support other locally identified projects. These experiences promote cultural exchange, teamwork, and a deeper understanding of sustainable community development.

Khamphao Sivilai
Program Leader
Khampao SIVILAI is a star member of our leadership team in Laos. He completed three years of vocational study in electronics in Luang Prabang before joining Rustic Pathways seven years ago. In that time, Khampao has developed his program leadership skills, and his charm and quick smile make him a favorite with our students. Khampao grew up in Xayaboury, the province with the highest number of elephants in all of Laos, and lends his childhood experiences there to the Lao Elephant Retreat and Luang Prabang program. A newlywed, Khampao looks forward to starting a family of his own in the next few years.
Vixayphone Vang
Program Leader
Vixayphone Vang is an accomplished English-speaking guide in Luang Prabang with extensive experience in tourism and customer service. He currently serves as the program leader at Golden Compass Tour Laos. In this role, he is responsible for taking care of high school students from around the world who come to Laos to engage in community service in remote areas, ensuring they have meaningful and impactful experiences.
Lon Souliphon
Office Manager
Mr. Lon Souliphon is office Manager for Golden Compass Tour Laos , His’s academic journey culminated in a Bachelor’s degree in Law from Luang Prabang University, one of the esteemed institutions in Laos. His legal education has equipped him with critical thinking skills, a deep understanding of regulatory frameworks, and a keen sense of justice, all of which are invaluable in his current role overseeing operations and ensuring all legal government document and work with vendors
Mimee hails from Luang Prabang Province and has been an integral part of our team since 2015, serving in the role of Program Leader. With a deep passion for community service and development, Mimee dedicates much of her time to working with international students, fostering meaningful connections, and engaging in impactful community projects. Her work primarily focuses on supporting and developing remote areas in Laos, reflecting her commitment to making a positive difference in her home country.
